Dr Kamran Khan Sumalani is one of the Leading Pulmonologist of Pakistan. He did his graduation from Jinnah medical and dental college Karachi in 2005, Later he got commissioned in federal public services and had worked at JPMC, He did his Diploma in tuberculosis and chest diseases (DTCD, MCPS in chest and MD pulmonology.

He worked as RMO at department of pulmonology, Jinnah postgraduate medical center Karachi, later he got promoted to the rank of assistant professor. Currently he is working as Associate professor Pulmonology at JPMC. He was frontline health professional during Covid epidemic and was incharge COVID ICU and ward for two years at JPMC.

He has special interest in interventional pulmonology and holds a vast experience of performing pleural procedures, pleural biopsy, chest tube intubation, & IPC’s , bronchoscopy, endobronchial biopsy, lung mass biopsy, semi-rigid and rigid thoracoscopy, point of care lung ultrasound etc.

Dr Khan has the credit of introducing and being pioneer of medical thoracoscopy under local anesthesia in Pakistan.

He has multiple research publications and case reports in various renowned national and international journals. He is author of various national guidelines including Pakistan’s first medical thoracoscopy guidelines, COPD and point of care chest ultrasound guidelines.

Dr Khan is member of various national and international chest societies including Pakistan chest society, European respiratory society, and American thoracic society. He is fellow of American college of chest physicians.

Dr Khan has presented his research publications and delivered lectures at various national and international scientific conferences.

Dr Khan received presidential award in 2017 for his pioneering work of medical thoracoscopy and his services to the patients with pleural diseases.

He has interest in health professional’s education and has conducted multiple lectures and workshops, including live thoracoscopy sessions at different hospitals, and international conferences of Pakistan Chest society. He has got CHPE and ICMT in 2023 and is SEDA accredited. Currently Dr Khan is general secretary of Pakistan chest society Sindh chapter, Member of Governing counsel, and Guideline committee of Pakistan chest society.
