Dr. Nadir Ali Syed graduated with honors from the Aga Khan University Hospital MBBS program. He then proceeded to the US for clinical training in neurology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey. Here he was chosen as the chief resident for one of America’s finest neurology programs.
He further undertook a two-year sub-specialization fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology to gain special skills in complicated neurologic tests at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. NIH is recognized as the world’s largest biomedical research organization.
Subsequently, Dr. Nadir returned to Pakistan to join the faculty of neurology at AKUH in 1998. He has been engaged with problem-based learning since and has chaired the neurosciences module committee that developed the neurosciences curriculum. He was appointed associate dean of postgraduate Medical Education for the university. Under his leadership as chief of neurology, the AKUH’s neurology section grew to be the largest department in the country. He is currently a part-time faculty at AKU in the faculty of health sciences and works as a clinical neurologist at SCH.
He has over 25 international research publications and has received several departmental research awards. He has also earned several educational citations and awards. Dr. Nadir is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Neurology), the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Clinical Neurophysiology).
