A widely recognized nutritionist and health professional, Perin Mama has headed the South City Obesity Clinic since its creation in 2009. Known for her comprehensive and compassionate approach, her mission is to empower individuals achieve their personal best weight and become the drivers of their own wellness. Specializing in creating personalized strategies to successfully manage weight loss, she helps her patients in cultivating a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition and fitness. Coupled with the weight loss program, Perin is the person in charge of the Pre and Post-Operative care of all obesity surgery patients amounting to nearly a thousand patients, a number that is unprecedented across the country. She has overseen a range of bariatric cases, which include stomach banding, sleeve gastrectomy and one anastomosis gastric bypass.
Perin graduated with honours from Karachi University with a Masters Degree in Food and Nutrition. Soon after, she started her career at the WHO Centre of Oral disease at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where she was an integral part of a number of research programs on Oral Cancer. She has attended various global conferences and was a participant in the “Introduction to Cancer Epidemiology” course in Jordan, and a part of the “Training Program on Obesity Surgery” at the Aker University in Norway.
With numerous years of diverse experience in the field of nutrition and health, she has also co-authored an article published in the BMJ on role of nutrition supplementation in Oral Cancer: Evaluation of multiple micronutrient supplementation in the management of oral submucous fibrosis in Karachi, Pakistan.
