Mrs. Fouzia Shah

Speech-language pathologists are experts who are trained to identify abnormalities in Speech( Phonation) and swallowing due many reasons and team up with Consultants for the recovery process and start rehabilitation therapy.

These highly qualified professionals are licensed in the evaluation and treatment of articulation, language, stuttering, voice, cognition, and swallowing disorders.

Evaluation and treatment services are available for:

Neurological Conditions:

  • Stroke.
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
  • Neuromuscular speech disorders resulting from Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) as well as other conditions.
  • Geriatric-related conditions (patient/family education and counseling for Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, cognitive changes).

Children Conditions:

  • Speech and language disorders.

Some Speech and Swallowing Conditions:

  • Swallowing disorders (dysphagia).

Speech-language pathologists will evaluate the specific needs of the patient and select a technique or a combination of techniques to serve the individual’s needs. Techniques can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Articulation improvement.
  • Aphasia/Language therapy.
  • Cognitive retraining for memory and attention as well as organizing and planning.
  • Computer-aided speech or alternative non-vocal communication.
  • Swallowing therapy/modified barium swallowing exam.
  • Stuttering/fluency.
  • Voice improvement.
  • Patient and family education.

Dr Fouzia Shah is one of the senior consultants and she attends to the patients admitted to South City Hospital(Pvt.) Ltd when requested by Neurologists, physicians, Paediatricians, psychiatrists or neurosurgeons, etc.


Such specialists review of auditory, visual, motor, and cognitive status of the patients.  Standardized and/or non-standardized measures of specific aspects of speech, spoken and non-spoken language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing function, including observations and analysis of work samples. Specially Swallowologist is one of the Speech-language pathology specialties that can evaluate and manage patients with oro-pharyngeal dysphagia due to for example stroke/paralysis etc.
