Dr Zakir Alavi is an Endocrinologist, Diabetologist & Internist at south City Hospital, He graduated from Sindh medical Collage, Karachi, and has over 36 years working experience.

After graduating in 1986 he went to Republic of Ireland for post graduate training in 1987. After completed his MRCP UK he completed his training in Diabetes, endocrinology and Metabolism and continued working in Ireland until his return to Pakistan in 1997.

He initially joined Jinnah Medical college as assistant professor medicine and later joined Liaquat National Hospital as Consultant Endocrinologist, and still later ascending to Head of Department Diabetes and Endocrinology. He has been practicing as an Internist and Endocrinologist at various hospitals in Karachi.

He has a special interest in Diabetes, Obesity and Hormonal Disorders (Pituitary, Adrenal, Thyroid and reproductive hormonal diseases).

He is actively involved with academic and teaching activities and has been an invited speaker at various national and international diabetes and endocrine symposia. He is the author of the chapter on thyroid cancer in the book "Thyroid Disorders, Basic Science and Clinical Practice" (Springer Publications).
