Prof. Shama Munim
Professor Shama Munim is working as senior consultant and Director of Fetal Medicine Center at South City Hospital. She has over twenty years’ experience in super specialty of Fetal Medicine and high-risk Obstetrics. She was trained in Fetal Medicine by Professor Nicolaides at Kings College Hospital, London UK and returned to Karachi in 2000. Following which she developed a Fetal Medicine Services/Unit at The Aga Khan University, Karachi. In order to promote the Specialty in Pakistan She initiated a fellowship program in this area.
Fetal Medicine Center under her leadership is conducting “One stop clinic for risk assessment” that provides Counseling for congenital anomalies, screening for Down’s syndrome, Preterm delivery and Pre-eclampsia.
Professor Shama Munim has extensive experience in performing Amniocentesis and Chorion Villus Sampling for chromosomal abnormalities, Thalassemia, Cystic Fibrosis and some Genetic conditions. In most cases these are planned and performed in the same visit, making it suitable for those who are travelling from outside Karachi.
