Professor Dr. Shehla Baqai is a highly acclaimed experienced qualified and decorated Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with an expertise in managing complex high risk pregnancies and gynecological disorders.
She specializes in women health with particular interest in reproductive health sub-fertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) menopause high risk obstetrics and prenatal diagnosis. She has extensive experience in performing Chorionic Villus Sampling and Amniocentesis for diagnosing Chromosomal Abnormalities, Thalassemia, Cystic Fibrosis and some Genetic conditions prenataly. She has done extensive work on medical disorders in pregnancy, managing complex gynecological problems, sexual and reproductive health, minimally invasive surgery and takes prides in careful, multi-disciplinary management of high risk gynaecological problems including malignancies.
She earned her MBBS, MCPS FCPS FICS and MCPS- HPE. She is the Dean of Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the country’s premier postgraduate institution- College of Physicians & surgeons Pakistan. She is a certified medical educationist CPSP accredited supervisor and examiner; has trained more than 150 fellowship trainees. She is country advisory & senior lead faculty for Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics course.
She is highly experienced with more than 30 years experience in the specialty, has worked at renowned tertiary care hospitals for years treating all kinds of female reproductive health problems. She remained Advisor Obstetrics & Gynecology Pakistan Armed Forces for 7 years. She is a senior Professor, Dean and Principal at Bahria University of Health Sciences. She has published in several high impact peer-reviewed journals, has contributed to many books and is the author of many national guidelines. She has been an invited speaker at various conferences and seminars and is part of various working task groups contributing to national health policy.
In recognition for her outstanding contribution towards promoting women health in Pakistan, Major General Shehla Baqai has been awarded “Hilal e Imtiaz Military”, “Tamgha e Imtiaz Military””Madre Millay Gold Medal” making her the most recognized and decorated gynaecologist in Pakistan. She is the first gynaecologist in Pakistan to be promoted to the rank of Major General
