Laparoscopy is the gold standard for exploring the causes of infertility after our basic investigations (ultrasounds and blood tests or biopsies) are done. It is a keyhole or minimally invasive procedure under anesthesia. A small coin-sized incision is made in your belly button and we insert a camera to take a look inside your pelvic cavity.
This way we can see your uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries and investigate (and if possible fix or repair any) damage or conditions such as:
1. Blocked tubes
2. Pelvic endometriosis
3. Congenital malformations
4. Pelvic inflammatory disease or any other pelvic pathology
5. For recurrent miscarriages
6. For removal of lost IUCD
Therapeutic laparoscopy performed at SCH includes:
1. Tubal reconstruction
2. Adhesiolysis
3. For the treatment of pelvic endometriosis
4. For the treatment of ovarian cysts
5. Laparoscopy dye test and ovarian drilling
And for other than infertility therapeutic laparoscopies are performed at SCH for the following conditions:
1. Ectopic pregnancies
2. Repair of pelvic damage
3. Hysterectomies
4. Ovarian Cystectomies
5. Radical hysterectomies with lymphadenectomy for endometrial cancer
6. For early ovarian cancer
7. Vault Prolapse after hysterectomy
8. For removal of fibroids (myomectomy)
9. Staging of gynecological malignancies and biopsies
